Medical Center of South Arkansas is the largest healthcare facility in the region. It is a general acute-care hospital licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health to operate 166 beds. With more than $30 million in facility and equipment improvements since 1996, this modern facility provides state-of-the-art technologies in many specialty areas.

The medical center is a 50/50 partnership between the local, non-profit SHARE Foundation and one of the nation’s largest healthcare services providers, Triad Hospitals, Inc. This partnership allows for quality healthcare that is still locally managed by hometown people who share the values and interests of the community.

Medical Center of South Arkansas provides a complete range of care including inpatient and outpatient diagnostic treatment services, one-day surgery, home health care, and home infusion. In addition, the center offers highly technical and sophisticated diagnostic and treatment protocols including CT, MRI, gastrointestinal testing and treatments, cardiac catheterization, radial keratotomy and laser surgery of the eye, neurological and vascular testing, physical rehabilitation, recuperative care, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, pain management, sleep studies and lithotripsy.

Specialties represented include anesthesiology, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, emergency medicine, family practice, gastroenterology, internal medicine, nephrology, neonatology, psychiatry, physiatry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, surgery, radiology and urology.

Aging Gracefully In El Dorado, Arkansas

The South Arkansas Center on Aging opened in September 2001, providing a focused plan of care incorporating health, education and wellness into the lifestyle of those 65 years of age or older. Developed through a unique partnership with UAMS, AHEC South Arkansas, Medical Center of South Arkansas, and the City of El Dorado, the facility has two major focuses – patient care and education.

Patient Care for Seniors

A specialized team from the Medical Center of South Arkansas provides its expertise and skills through the Senior Health Center. This team includes geriatricians and internists, an advanced practice nurse, other nursing staff, a social worker, a pharmacist, a dietitian and other health care professionals.

Clinic services include medical evaluations and functional assessments, and health maintenance and prevention strategies.

Education for Seniors

Educational programs are provided by AHEC South Arkansas in collaboration with the Reynolds Center on Aging. These programs focus on complementing and augmenting clinical care by providing key resources to area health care professionals studying geriatrics.

HealthWorks Fitness Center

A service of the SHARE Foundation, the HealthWorks Fitness Center held its grand opening on May 24, 2004. The goal of the center is to foster programs and services that promote and further the well being of area residents.

The center is a 50,000 square feet state-of-the-art health facility that includes a large aquatics center, 3 group exercise studious, group cycling, free weights, an indoor lazy river, a waterslide, massage, babysitting and more! The facility offers fitness consultations and health education programs.
